What do we grow ?
"Anything that takes my fancy. I'll try anything from tropics
to tundra. I have planted some interesting trees, shrubs and roses,
but herbaceous perennials are my real passion.
They cover such a huge range of possibilities,- form, colour,
foliage, flowers, seed-heads, length of season, there will be
a plant that fits the bill. And they're so flexible.
I'm not interested in having a static garden. I like to keep
the garden fresh by keeping it on the move. Trees and shrubs can
provide the bones, but herbaceous plants and bulbs give the garden
its character.
Yes, I grow a lot of rarities, but only if they earn their place
as good garden plants. I'm bored by menagerie gardens full of
plants neatly labelled BOTANICAL INTEREST ONLY."
